I always leave your studio thinking, 'Oh my God,' because the kids are so wild, yet every time the images are amazing. You’re incredible—I don’t worry anymore!” Sommer, 2023

JENNIFER’S RETIREMENT ANNOUNCEMENT
Dear Clients & Friends,
As I step into retirement from photography after more than 40 years behind the camera, I find myself filled with immense gratitude. Since 1992, you trusted me with the most intimate, joyful, painful, and transformative moments of your lives. That trust has been the greatest honor of my career.
The photographs we made together will live on well beyond my lifetime, and knowing that I was able to make a small difference in the world by challenging society's definition of beauty and showing the pregnant female form as beautiful has fulfilled my life. Also, you allowing me to witness and capture your changing bodies as well as trusting me to capture your children as they grow up, has been such an honor. Your love for each other and your stories. I believe deeply that we each must find our passion and use it to create positive change. Photography was mine.
This career gave me more than I could have ever imagined: a book, coverage by national publications, television features, and the privilege of helping usher this genre into the mainstream. But far more than these accolades, my work gave me community. So many of you shaped my life in ways large and small, from becoming a parent with your support, to the books I read, the shoes I bought, the conversations that carried me through hard seasons. My studio became sacred ground—where stories were shared, held with care, and never carried beyond its walls.
Today, I write this as the wind moves through the fir trees on my small island near Seattle—surrounded by an orchard, six chickens, a couple of dogs, one feral cat, and a thriving son. My life is full in a new way.
While I’m closing the chapter of my professional life, I will continue working with photographs. My photo organizing business, started in 2018, allows me the connection with clients that I love, as well as being able to make a difference in their lives. Helping families preserve, protect, and pass down the images and stories of their families that are attached to these images keeps me working in a profession I love. Photographs are everything. They capture relationships and connections and remind us of the love we have. Photographs help us heal and help us preserve our legacy for generations.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for a life richly lived. I carry your stories with me always. I will have the same email, so please reach out from time to time.
With profound gratitude,
Jennifer
Please note: If you have an outstanding session already paid for, I will be honoring that session. Please reach out to get on the calendar.
My archive of images will still be active as well, so if you would like to order prints or albums from a previous session, you can still do so.
